Keith is still out hunting the south wind oak ridge stand, I couldn't hunt my stand because of the wind. Saw a doe and a small buck yesterday, would have taken the doe but she was REALLY skittish, busted me on the draw.
This fellow visited the back yard stand after hours last evening.

THA4,
Had that happen to me. Shot the buck at 15 yards quartering towards me, hit him a couple ribs back high lung. Exit, I'm not sure but no gut on the arrow, and I was pretty sure where I hit him. We waited for a couple hours, and Keith, who is locally famous for his tracking skills, and I headed out to get my buck.
We looked for 4 hours before finding a spot where he stopped and bled some amongst a ton of other tracks, but he was bleeding WAY too little. He took off at a run, looked like, and only dropped one tiny speck every 30 yards or so, but that gave us direction of travel and which run he was on. We lost the trail on a clean scraped 4 wheeler trail that intersected with the run, despite looking for 6 hours. Rained hard the next day, but I looked anyway...nada.
So here's how I knew where I hit him. We were cutting wood in the back yard two days after I shot the buck. Keith and I both heard the Eagles 'talking' at the same time, looked at each other and said, "Well, there's that buck." There were ravens in the area too.
I went out later that afternoon and VERY slowly stalked up to where the Eagles were. Not easy, they are GONE if they pick you out and they have way better eyes than I do. There were three of them, an immature and parents. Took me almost 2 hours to go 300 yards...and there it was, about half gone already. The buck had left the trail at a dead run and slid into a fern patch, covering himself up. With no blood trail, we walked right past him, probably at least twice.
The Muzzy took him right where I thought I had hit, a few inches back from the shoulder angling back, through and through. Should have left a blood trail like a faucet, something must have plugged the exit hole. No way to tell, the Eagles had that part of the buck long gone.
I hate losing a deer, but if one hunts long enough, it WILL happen.

I imagine it was hard enough to get her in the woods, the last thing you would want to add to your plate, eh? I can imagine. I wish you well, hope you find him. Let her know your friends on OutdoorsFIRST have been there, too.

Doubled lunged this bruiser this past Sunday. Won't score well (could really care less) but he came in stiff legged and weighed 203 dressed. G2 on one side and G3 on other completely snapped off. He had a scarred face and looked like he was ready for another one the way he came in...LOL

Happened pretty fast...when he got to the trail intersection (where a young 8 came through 5 minutes earlier dogging a doe) I gave a soft grunt and he laid his ears back and came "the right direction"!
